Samarium Metal Introduction

Samarium metal is glossy, brittle, silvery-yellow metal. It tarnishes in the air, and it is relatively hard. Its hardness and density are similar to zinc. Samarium Metal has primarily been utilized in the production of Samarium-Cobalt (Sm2Co17) permanent magnets with one of the highest known demagnetization resistance. High purity Samarium Metal is also used in making specialty alloy and sputtering targets. Samarium-149 has a high cross-section for neutron capture (41,000 barns) and is therefore used in nuclear reactors’ control rods. Samarium Metal can be further processed into various shapes, like sheets, wires, foils, slabs, rods, discs, and powder.

Applications of Samarium Metal

One of the most important samarium applications is in samarium-cobalt magnets, which have a nominal composition of SmCo5 or Sm2Co17. Samarium and its compounds can be used as catalysts and chemical reagents. In its usual oxidized form, samarium is added to ceramics and glasses, increasing infrared light absorption. Samarium-149 has a high cross-section for neutron capture and is therefore used in nuclear reactors’ control rods.

Packaging of Samarium Metal

1. Packed in iron drums, lined with a single layer of plastic bags and protected by argon, each barrel weighs 50kg or 250kg.

2. According to the customers’ requirements, we can provide custom products and packaging.
