Dysprosium Metal Introduction
Dysprosium metal is a bright silver color, very soft, and malleable rare earth metal that remains relatively stable in air at room temperature. You can even cut it with a knife. Dysprosium’s characteristics can be strongly affected by the presence of small amounts of impurities. Dysprosium is stable in air at room temperature but can be easily oxidized by oxygen and water at high temperatures and become dysprosium oxide. Dysprosium is superconductive at near absolute zero temperature.

Application of Dysprosium Metal
Dysprosium is mainly used in the production of the new lighting source – the dysprosium lamp. It is also used in nuclear reactors to make nuclear reactor control rods. Also, dysprosium compounds are good catalysts in the petroleum refining industry.
